Wilkie Hospital was converted into a Health Center in January 1997. There are two observation beds for monitoring patients. One convalescent bed allows clients returning from treatment in the city to recover in their home town. A palliative care room is also available for patients in the last stages of life. This room is set out so that the family members may stay 24 hours a day a day if they so wish. Physicians alternately provide 24 hour emergency services, after regular officehours and on weekends. There are two ambulances located in Wilkie. Laboratory services are available Monday too Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm, with on-call weekends and holidays.

Heartland Health Region offers a full spectrum of health care services to Wilkie and surrounding district. The Wilkie Health Centre, a Level B facility, offers 24 hour emergency care. This includes 24 hour ambulance (EMS), diagnostics, Registered Nursing and Physician coverage. 

The facility consists of:
- Emergent outpatient services
- 5 program beds, these beds can be utilized to care for any combination of clients:
- Respite
- Observation
- Convalescence (patient recovering from illness, injury or surgery prior to returning home)
- Palliative care (A suite is available to support the patient and their family during the end stages of life)
29 LTC beds

 

Community based services include:
Home Care - providing Nursing and personal care as well as home making services to members of the community who are unable to manage their care alone and are without support.

Occupational Therapy
Dietician Services
Public Health
Diabetic Educators

Poplar Courts is a long-term care facility that was built in 1982. There are twenty-nine beds with one bed to provide respite care. Admission into Poplar Courts is through the District Coordinating Committee and is based upon client need.

Wilkie and District Health Foundation (1998)

This charitable organization was formed on September 15, 1998 to create and manage a fund to assist with health related expenditures within the Wilkie community. 


Expenditures shall be designated, but not limited to the following:

  • Building projects and/or renovations
  • Purchase of equipment
  • Recruitment of medical personnel and/or expertise
